Description of Event:

Pioneer Days, held in 1936 and 1948, paid tribute to Buffalo Bill Cody as a native son. In 1968 the official annual Buffalo Bill Cody Days celebration was introduced and continued for nearly 30 years in an effort to keep his memory and connection to Leavenworth alive. There are many reasons the event faded away. Some committee members became too busy with family and life obligations, a few moved away. In 1995, Leavenworth Main Street created a new festival referred to as River Fest. River Fest continued until 2007 when the festival was renamed First City Festival. Though all of our festivals have been fantastic community events, people often reminisced about Buffalo Bill Cody Days; they missed the ""Old West"" theme, they missed celebrating their heritage, and they missed the simplicity of days gone by. Leavenworth Main Street, who had been helping to facilitate River Fest and then First City Festival, responded to the communities need for a heritage event. This year, Buffalo Bill Days is back and, just like so many years ago, the festival is being organized by a community committee. The whole town is excited and ready to put on the best Buffalo Bill Days yet! The shops will be decorating their windows with ""Old West"" displays, we will have a walking tour through town starting the Monday before the festival which will continue through the following week. Our city Trolley will also be traveling along the tour route for anyone who would prefer to enjoy the tour seated. The outhouse races are sure to be a hit again this year; start growing you beard and mustaches for the contest. Native American dancers, artisans, crafters, an interactive youth stage and drum circle, a free art and craft zone for the kids, live music, local food and more..so much more Hours: Saturday Sept. 14 3pm -11pm and Sunday Sept. 15th 11am -6pm
