How to Increase your Craft Show Sales in New York

It seems like everyone in New York is trying to sell somebody something and that is something you should be aware of when trying to sell your creations at craft shows in New York. You don't want to come across like a used car salesman when you are showing your work at local craft shows. There are several good ways you can increase your craft show sales in New York.

  • Improve your sales technique. Learning how to talk to, or rather listen to people is the most important part of being a good salesperson. Of course, you also need to learn how to ask for the sale with an open-ended question like "Will that be cash or charge?"
  • Improve your display. Creating an eye catching display will attract more people over so you can strike up a conversation and make more sales.
  • Invest in credit card processing. People just don't carry cash like they used to and checks are unreliable. You will have to pay a small fee for every transaction that somebody makes, but the increase in the number of sales you make will more than make up the difference since studies show that people will spend more money (up to 3 times more) when they purchase with credit. You can buy or rent a credit card processing machine or you can sign up for an online account and just bring your laptop to your shows.
  • Stay on top of trends. Keep your eyes open and watch what is selling. When a particular item you've created isn't moving, try to find out why and be willing to change and adapt in order to make more sales.
  • Be friendly. Just striking up a conversation with passersby at the craft shows in New York can make people feel comfortable with you and want to buy from you. People will often stop to check out your goods and make a purchase just because they like your personality.

New Yorkers are a pretty friendly and down-to-earth bunch once you put them in their comfort zone. Overt sales tactics are likely to turn them off, so be sure to be friendly—not pushy—and listen to their needs. Making a few small changes such as adding credit card processing and updating your display can yield huge increases in craft show sales in New York, so be willing to try something new.

some good advice!  i am always trying to be a better salesman without being too pushy.  it can be a delicate balance!
