Description of Event:

A wonderful weekend in the White Lake area awaits guitarists of all skill levels. Packed full with performances, workshops, give aways, and vendors, the fourth annual White Lake Guitar Fest, May 15-16 in Montague, promises to provide something for everyone! Different styles of playing and picking are welcomed and there is even a Beginner’s Crash Course for those who have always wanted to learn guitar! Cost is $35 in advance ($40 at the door) and includes all performances, workshops and events. Student registration is only $25. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged on-line at www.artswhitelake.org.  Please call 231-329-3056 for more information.
Kicking off the weekend at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 15 will be a performance by the Grand Rapids Guitar Quartet at the Book Nook and Java Shop, 8744 Ferry St. in Montague. Ticket cost is $15 for the public but is included in Guitar Fest registration. The Grand Rapids Guitar Quartet is comprised of four award winning guitarists who currently make their homes in the West Michigan area, Andrew Bergeron, David Martin, Brian Morris and Michael Stockdale.  For the past five years they have received an overwhelmingly positive response from audiences at their sold out performances at colleges, universities, art centers, chamber music series and community concert series. They present a program of a variety of transcriptions of masterworks, Latin music and original compositions, along with entertaining, informative and often humorous explanations.
Registration on Saturday, May 16 starts at 9 a.m at the Book Nook and Java Shop, 8744 Ferry St. Hourly workshops run from 10 – 5 p.m., presented by Andrew Bergeron, David Martin, Brian Morris, Michael Stockdale, Eric O. Smith, Wayne Walden, and Curt Isakson covering topics including finger picking strategies and exercises, tango styles, playing with greater ease, rock guitar basics, the worshipping guitarist, learning to solo in any key, song writing for guitar, secret warm-ups of the masters, using technology and the internet to improve guitar skills, jazz technique, and much more.
An open mic is schedule on Saturday, May 16, 7 p.m., at the Book Nook & Java Shop to culminate a great weekend of guitar learning and playing!
Pre-registration is strongly encouraged on-line at www.eventbrite.com or through the Arts Council of White Lake, 106 E. Colby St, Whitehall.  Please call 231-329-3056 for more information.
