BEST FEST is coming Saturday, September 24, 2016 and will transform Olde Trappe Park in Trappe, MD into a festival of fun filled entertainment created by teenagers for teenagers! BEST FEST is a free open to the public festival, designed primarily for the teenagers in our community, but the whole family is welcome! It will feature BUBBLE BALL, a unique take on soccer that puts players inside of inflatable protective clear plastic bubbles. GAME TRUCK, a state of the art mobile gaming studio. KAN JAM, a mix of horseshoes, corn hole and Frisbee. On the main stage throughout the day will be the TALBOT TEEN SHOWCASE, a talent show with no pressure on being a winner, it’s all about having fun and just doing your BEST!
The biggest part of the festival isn’t solely about the one day it takes place. The beauty of this “one day” festival is the time and preparation that go into building it. This will be time spent with our kids from right here in Talbot County. So, the one day of the festival is really just the cherry on top! It’s all about giving our kids an opportunity to be a part of something that is exciting, innovative, challenging and if we say so ourselves… COOL!
But it doesn’t happen without your support. Talbot County, like so much of America, has seen a major increase in heroin usage and other opiate related crimes. We have had several overdose deaths in the past year. One of the proven ways to help combat substance abuse among teenagers is through early inclusion. To be more specific “targeted inclusion” into areas that interest kids during their most impressionable years. BEST FEST targets some of those very areas. According to a recent online poll conducted on Twitter, the most used social website by kids from 13 to 19, live music, video games, sports, and activities with friends all topped their lists. Also topping the list were; following fashion trends and watching movies. Armed with that data, BEST FEST looks to provide something for everyone!
