Description of Event:
Richland's annual family-friendly festival will return this year with a new name and logo. Formerly known as Richland Day, the popular event will now be known as the Highway 49 Fest. The name change signifies the growth the festival has gained over the 33 years it has been in operation. City officials also anticipate the name will give the event more appeal to a larger audience. 'Richland Day has become our community's signature event,' said Terri Wood, Special Events Coordinator with the City of Richland. 'We want to encourage visitors from other surrounding areas to come and enjoy the festivities. Our festival has something for everyone and this new direction will appeal to a larger audience. We're excited about the new changes and look forward to this year's event.' Highway 49 Fest will be held on Saturday, September 29, at the Richland Eastside Park and Ranger Stadium behind Richland High School. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the South Rankin Food Resource Center. A 5K race called 'Miles for Meals' will be held, in addition to one of the few lawn mower races in the area, live music, arts and crafts, a kid's town, and food concessions.
