Creating Craft Displays that Sell in Oregon

March 2009

A great display is vital to your success at craft shows in Oregon. Your display will create the image people will have of you and your crafts. They will notice your display before they notice your crafts and, in fact, they will be attracted to come over and look at your crafts by the quality of your display. However, the value of the display is based not so much on the beauty of it. You should be careful to create a display that projects the cost of your items so that you will attract the right customers. There are several keys to creating craft displays that sell in Oregon. First of all, you want to consider the space available to you. Will you have an entire booth or just a table to work in? From there you should work on developing your theme. Pick a color scheme that suits your crafts. Your display should be as creative as the items you are trying to sell. This is what people are judging you on first. Next, you must be sure that your items are easy to see and the prices are easy to read. Make sure you have priced your items to allow for a little haggling—it is all just part of the business. You don't want to sell things without making a profit; so consider leaving a little wiggle room for making people feel like they have got a good deal. Another consideration is keeping your display uncluttered. It's okay to have a "full" display, especially for your less expensive items, but you don't want it to look messy or unprofessional. More expensive items should be displayed more sparsely (extra items can be kept in a box hidden under your display table and pulled out as needed). Finally, make sure that your display is a reflection of you and something that you feel good about. By coordinating your colors and keeping an uncluttered display with clearly marked prices that expresses the image you want your customers to have about you, you will feel more comfortable with your display. When you feel comfortable with your display you will have greater confidence in selling your crafts in Oregon.
