Description of Event:
This is a celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Chisholm Trail. Saturday morning Saddle Up Let's Ride parade in downtown Abilene featuring old buggies, honor guard, stagecoaches and an authentic Longhorn Cattle drive. Friday night street dance and bon-fire at the Heritage Center. Watch the re-enactment of the first shipment of longhorns from Abilene as they are loaded into a cattle car and leave for market pulled by a steam locomotive. Revisit the location of the original saloons along Texas Street with a classic car show. Experience a meal as the cowboys did at the Chuck wagon breakfast. Step back into history at the Buckaroo camp for children. Kids can learn how to rope a steer, saddle a horse, play games as they did in the 1860s. Meet cowboy poets, story tellers, living history and cowboy music entertainers.Information:
