Description of Event:
The Arts on Fire Festival, launched in 2009, is a three day celebration of arts, heritage, industry and community held the first weekend of June at the Iron Furnaces in Scranton. The Iron Furnaces is a former working iron foundry, built in the 1840s, where many of the early immigrants to Scranton worked. Set against this historic backdrop, visitors to the Arts on Fire Festival can enjoy hands-on history and the best of contemporary art. The festival kicks off with the Fire at the Furnace fundraiser, an exciting nighttime iron pour that supports the iron furnace site and the Anthracite Heritage Museum. Saturday and Sunday feature all day activities for the whole family including food, music, children's activities as well as black smiting, pottery, glass making demonstrations and a community iron pour. Industrial artists from all over the United States working in glass, metal, recycled materials, and clay will feature unique art for purchase. Visitors may also take a fun, historic Trolley ride to and from the Electric City Trolley Station and Museum. Hours: Friday 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.Information:
