Description of Event:

Elgin's Green EXPO 2013 is set for May 10 and May 11, at the Centre of Elgin. With thousands of visitors each year, this green event is the largest of its kind in the Fox Valley and is presented in partnership with Waste Management, Davey Tree, and the City of Elgin Sustainability Commission. Admission is free! EXPO was launched by ECCO (a local grassroots organization) out of a need for a common conversation between decision makers who influence the greening of our already built environment. As we listen, we learn. Today, we continue to serve individuals, businesses and the community to realize our true potential. As this is our 5th EXPO, we're celebrating earth, wind, fire, water and spirit- the 5 elements. We'll honor these by bringing back the country's largest aquarium stocked with fish that have just come from the Fox River (yes, they go back right after EXPO); experience the rich traditions of the Native American community in preserving our natural environment; meet the eagles, hawks, owls and birds of prey in our region; enjoy music, dancing and fire ceremonies; the 1st Green Award nominations and ceremony; plus exhibits and events which allow us to conserve, preserve and restore the harmony of our magnificent community. Of course, in order to keep this a minimal-impact event, recycling bins will be scattered throughout the EXPO. Visitors are encouraged to take the Metra train or PACE bus or car pool to the event. Elgin residents are encouraged to ride bikes, take a brisk jog or leisurely walk to get here. So spread the word, join us and see the best of green!
