Description of Event:
The festival is celebrated each year to focus on the region's commercial fishermen and their families and the important role they play in our community. But, it's more than just a weekend of fun and games. The Memorial Service takes place at the Fishermen's Memorial, a bronze dory with oars at rest, on the east side of the harbor. The service recognizes fishermen who were lost at sea. As a bell tolls, the names are read, immediately followed by a boat parade. The boats circle the inner harbor for all to see while receiving a blessing for a safe and prosperous year ahead. The festival is a three-day event starting Friday evening at the Boothbay Region High School where the 2015 Miss Shrimp Princess will be crowed in the annual pageant. Other events are Codfish Relay Race; Trap Hauling Competition; Lobster Crate Running; Bait Shoveling; Tug of War; Blessing of the Fleet, and more.Information:
