Craft Shows, Fairs, and Festivals in Massachusetts

March 2009

In Massachusetts, vendor events are held all year round, giving sellers, craftsmen, and tourists alike plenty to do. Massachusetts fairs and festivals include the Topsfield Fair, billed as America’s Oldest Fair, in Boston Street, Topsfield, Massachusetts. This county fair has been continuously operating for 190 years, and features agricultural exhibits including a premier fall flower show, the New England Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off, fruit and vegetables, poultry, draft horses, and many more. A Farm/Fair Museum, Fiesta Shows Midway, and the Essex County Farm Yard are also some of the popular attractions in the Topsfield Fair. Other Massachusetts fairs and festivals include the Daffodil Days at Falmouth, the Hudson Valley Arabian Horse Show at West Springfield, and the Massachusetts Sheep and Wool Festival at Cummington.

Those looking in particular for Massachusetts craft shows would do well to consider the Mattoon Arts Festival, named after Mattoon Street in Springfield where it is held. This festival, which is free to the public, showcases the original work of more than a hundred photographers, painters, weavers, potters, jewelers, glass workers, and other craftspeople. Other Massachusetts craft shows include the Spring Arts and Crafts Festival at Sudbury, the Hingham Antiques Show and Sale at Hingham, and the International Gem and Jewelry Show at Marlborough.
